Maine wildlife biologists are warning deer hunters this year to pay extra attention to avoid ticks in the woods this year. Even if you are outside around the house and not hunting, you should pay close attention to prevent from getting ticks on you.
The black-legged tick or “deer tick” is the tick that carriers Lyme disease and can transmit it to humans.
Nathan Bieber of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says “You’ve got to check yourself when you come back in. Lyme disease is not something you want to mess around with.”
Deer hunters should take precautions and use insect repellent. Some hunters will soak their clothes in permethrin before going into the woods.
